The morning stillness as the sun warms the air, my eyes stopped to stare. When your mind stops running, you have room for real contemplation. Take time to find solitude, space and peace
It was a beautiful day for a hike today, the air was fresh but the sun was warm and new snow on the peaks. Perfection.
One doesn’t really associate Scotland with sunny beaches, however its long coast line, often in wonderfully isolated areas, is full of stunning surprises. This is one of my personal favourites, Durness beach on the north coast of Scotland, not far from Cape Wrath, is for me perfection. On a sunny day the sea is azure and the sand is golden as you look out towards the Arctic Circle and watch the birds speed diving into the ocean to catch fish.
Fortunately this area is so isolated that only the most determined will make the journey. The road that leads to this secret paradise brings you through some of the most ancient volcanic landscape in the world, travelling though it you feel as if you are in a land before time began.
The only way to get to the beach is to drive through this landscape that time forgot.
I love storms and can always feel when they are coming
If you like the work of the painter Rothko you will hopefully appreciate my photographic creation based upon the work of his genius. If you don’t know about Rothko, look him up, his work has a quiet genius that can be stared at for hours.
I love the sea, I grew up next to it. Sailing boats are a thing of beauty for me, the way they move when under sail, the sound of the wind in the rigging as the bow kisses the waves. Hands on the wheel, sails taken in and let out as you play with the wind to find that perfect spot, poetry in motion, when the boat comes alive and surges forward as if pushed onwards by an invisible hand. There is something about sailing into the wide open void of the ocean, being out of sight of land, that brings a complete sense of your place in the universal order of things, not that we are too small to be important, but that we are a part of the universal whole.
